About this event

Genealogists searching online often turn first to the major genealogy websites, but a wealth of records, photographs, manuscripts, and historical materials can be found elsewhere—sometimes hiding in plain sight.

The San Angelo Genealogical and Historical Society will welcome professional genealogist Diane Richard on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. for the virtual presentation “50 State-Level Digitized Memory Platforms You Don’t Want to Miss!”

Across the country, states have developed online “memory” and digital archives that provide access to an extraordinary variety of materials useful to family historians. These collections may include original documents, photographs and other images, and resources that provide historical context, with some collections spanning a state’s history from its founding to the present.

During the presentation, Richard will introduce researchers to state-level resources such as Indiana Memory, the Portal to Texas History, North Carolina Digital Collections, and Virginia Memory and explore what individual states offer genealogists. Best of all, these digital collections make it possible to conduct research around the clock—and, as Richard puts it, to do it “24/7 in your jammies!”

The presentation will be held virtually and is open to the public. Registration information and a Zoom registration link are available on the society’s website at saghs-tx.org.
