COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of the Concho Valley and the Concho Valley Community Action Agency are seeking donations (blankets, towels, hygiene items, laundry detergent, and shelf-stable snacks) to help people experiencing homelessness; items are due by noon Thursday, Jan. 22 at the CVCAA office for distribution to local warming centers.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Due to an approaching arctic front with falling temperatures in the teens + 20s, the Salvation Army has kept its warming shelter open all week at 122 W. 2nd St to offer safe refuge, blankets, and warmth while local agencies provide additional cold-weather support.  San Angelo LIVE!

BUSINESS NEWS

  • El Paisano opened its fourth restaurant in San Angelo on Monday, Jan. 19 at Knickerbocker Road in the former Napoli’s Italian Restaurant building. The Mexican cuisine chain now has locations on S. Chadbourne, S. Bell, and Sherwood Way.  San Angelo Standard-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The San Angelo ISD Board voted 6-1 Tuesday night to close Reagan and Bowie Elementaries after the 2026–27 school year to address declining enrollment and a projected $4.3 million deficit—new attendance boundaries will be redrawn later.  San Angelo LIVE!

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Apartment rental prices in San Angelo increased slightly—where the median reached $1,425 in December, up from last month’s $1,375. Data from Zumper shows one-bedroom rents rose 6% since last year while two-bedroom prices stayed flat.  San Angelo Standard-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tuesday, Jan. 20 rankings show six Texas schools in college football's top 25: Texas Tech is No. 7, Texas A&M is No. 8, Texas is No. 12, Houston is No. 22, North Texas is No. 24, and TCU is No. 25 + Indiana claimed the national championship on Monday night.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University softball team will open the 2026 NCAA Division II season ranked No. 13 despite losing key players (including two All-Americans) and will play in the DII First Pitch Invitational in Conroe on Jan. 30 before hosting games from Feb. 6-8.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • In Wall on Tuesday night, the Wall Hawks overcame a late rally by the Jim Ned Indians to win 50-44 and improve to 5-0 in District 6-3A, and they will host the San Angelo TLCA Eagles on Friday, Jan. 23 with tip-off at 7:15 p.m.  San Angelo LIVE!
