CULTURE NEWS

  • San Angelo Rodeo is now accepting online sign-ups for Mutton Bustin'; contestants will be chosen on Feb. 19 and must confirm their spot with a fee ($35) by Feb. 27. Future performances are scheduled for various dates in April.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Online registration for Sonora Bank Mutton Bustin’ at the 2026 San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo opened Monday — a drawing to select competitors will be held Feb. 19 and winners must pay a $35 fee by 8 a.m. Feb. 27 to confirm their spots.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UIL released new district realignments Monday for the 2026 to 2028 school years, updating divisions for football, basketball and volleyball across Concho Valley schools (including changes from San Angelo Central to San Angelo Lake View).  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials issued a traffic advisory for construction on Edmund Boulevard near Kirby Park until mid-February, keeping two lanes open at Edmund and West 29th Street. Motorists should reduce speed and consider alternate routes—especially in the school zone between North Van Buren and Louise Drive during drop-off and pick-up.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • The Concho Valley Council of Governments holds a public meeting to gather input for its spaceport feasibility study, fully funded by a Texas Space Commission grant. The event is Thursday, Feb. 12 at CV Transit Annex (506 N. Chadbourne) from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with in-person and virtual options.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lake View and Central secured favorable positions in Monday’s UIL realignment. Lake View now competes in District 3 with Andrews, Midland Greenwood, and Plainview (its largest change), while Central remains with its longstanding Permian Basin rivals.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • UIL realignment on Monday shifted Concho Valley school districts. Grape Creek now faces longer trips in District 3-3A while Ballinger returns to familiar rivals and the Brady-Mason rivalry is renewed as Water Valley and Robert Lee are placed in separate districts.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo Central standout linebacker Mason Van Sickle committed to play football for the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa after posting strong season numbers — 138 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and the Defensive MVP title at the San Angelo LIVE!   • UIL's new district realignment moved Wall & TLCA to a football district with Hill Country teams including Ingram Moore, Llano and Early, sparking surprise over long travel distances. Local players will now face new matchups as schools adjust to the change.  San Angelo LIVE!
