BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sunset Mall lost another store on Tuesday, Feb. 3 when Bath & Body Works at 4001 Sunset Drive was shuttered — its storefront was covered by a black tarp while a second location at 4175 Sunset Drive remains open.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • San Angelo radio station Q99.5 ended its 12-year Tejano music run on Feb. 1 by switching to a Christian adult contemporary format called Spirit of Truth Radio. Co-owner Tony Cuellar said the change supports mission-focused programming & collaboration with local churches.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State announced its signing class by adding 22 high school athletes (Feb. 5) in a move that underscores its commitment to local talent. The new recruits are expected to boost the team’s performance next season.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University changed its scholarship rules to allow more incoming freshmen and transfers to qualify and added about $1 million to the annual awards for Fall 2026. Students will learn their awards in early February with complete details provided mid-February.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Department of Public Safety will boost patrols on Sunday, Feb. 8 from 12:01 a.m. until midnight during the Super Bowl weekend to enforce laws and urge fans to drive sober & buckle up. The move is part of the nationwide CARE program following last year’s enforcement efforts.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Central Bobcats head coach Mark Smith was named the 2026 Region 2-6A Coach of the Year on Thursday after turning the team around from a 1-9 record to an 8-4 season with a playoff trophy. The San Angelo Independent School District announced the honor on Facebook.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Angelo State Rams beat Western New Mexico 63-52 at the Junell Center at Stephens Arena on Thursday. McWright’s clutch free throws — with less than three minutes remaining — secured the win as the Rams improved to a 14-10 record.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State Rambelles beat Western New Mexico 79-47 on Thursday at the Junell Center (Stephens Arena). The team extended its win streak to five games and will host Sul Ross State Saturday, Feb. 7 at the same venue.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State announced 22 high school signings for its 2026 football roster on Thursday in San Angelo (players include standouts from Stephenville, Odessa Permian, Midland Legacy and Llano) as it builds on last season’s Lone Star Conference success.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State softball teams make their home debut this weekend when they host the George & Ola McCorkle Challenge at Mayer Softball Field on Victory Lane; ticket options include $25 tournament passes and single-game tickets, honoring longtime fan Ola who passed away in December.  San Angelo LIVE!
