EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ San Angelo ISD board voted unanimously on Feb. 16 against a policy that would mandate a daily period for prayer and reading of religious texts at every campus. Board members said they had concerns about implementing the optional policy under Senate Bill 11. FOX West Texas
- ➤ Candace Aguirre, assistant director of liaison programs at Angelo State, was appointed to the Education Reach for Texans Board for a three-year term (until Dec. 2028) to boost campus-based support for students with foster care backgrounds. - ➤ Angelo State University launched its new air traffic control simulator lab yesterday, where students began training with UFA equipment (designed for FAA certification) as part of a program that will see its first cohort graduate in December. San Angelo Standard-Times

- ➤ Gov. Abbott raised the state operations center’s readiness to Level II as wildfires brought strong winds + dry vegetation through Thursday. State agencies mobilized personnel and equipment to assist local responders in protecting lives and infrastructure. San Angelo LIVE!

- ➤ Central Bobcats won (their first in 14 years) the District 2-6A title on Tuesday night with a 61-32 win over Odessa High. The undefeated home team (28-5 overall) now prepares for the playoffs starting Monday, Feb. 23. San Angelo LIVE!

- ➤ Angelo State’s Kamryn Williams was named LSC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week after recording a 58-foot, 8.5-inch weight throw at the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock this past weekend — she will compete at the LSC Indoor Championships Feb. 27-28 in Albuquerque. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ San Angelo Lake View senior Braylon White received his second college football offer on Monday from McMurry University in Abilene. White, a top receiver last season with 66 catches (882 yards and 13 touchdowns), also has an offer from Nelson University. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ Angelo State outfielder Austin Beck was named Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week on Tuesday after a strong show against Sul Ross State in Alpine — he hit .625 and drove in runs. The senior will return Friday to start a four-game series at Foster Field at 6:30 p.m. San Angelo LIVE!
