  • Local leaders celebrated Meals for the Elderly’s Community Champions event on Thursday as part of the March for Meals campaign, honoring figures like Alma V from the KIXY Morning Show and longtime volunteer Carol Santry — the program delivers over 600 meals every weekday to homebound seniors.  KWFR
  • Sign-ups are open for the 2026 Kids Championship Cook-Off at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo's Spur Arena on Saturday, April 4; young cooks aged 6 to 18 must pay a $25 fee (registration closes March 20 or when 50 spots fill) and bring one adult assistant per contestant.  San Angelo LIVE!

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A GoFundMe was launched on Wednesday to aid Veribest teacher Lee Ann Cauley’s family after she was fatally killed when her vehicle was rear-ended at a railroad crossing on U.S. 277 at Old Ballinger Highway.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • Fort Concho will host several history events in March, including Afternoon Tea and Campfire Story Night on March 19, a meet-and-greet on March 21, and Frontier Ladies Living History Weekend on March 14-15 (fees apply to select events).  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, March 9, the SAISD board revisited campus closure criteria after community members raised equity concerns over Reagan Elementary's planned closure for fall. Trustee Karla Cardenas urged an equity review plus no immediate changes were made.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Snake season has begun at San Angelo State Park as warmer spring temperatures bring snakes to trails and rocks; park officials advise visitors to be cautious + follow posted safety guidelines.  FOX West Texas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials say new flood warning sirens will soon be installed in flood-prone parts of the Concho Valley (after last year’s deadly flooding) as part of a statewide initiative funded by the Texas Legislature to give residents extra time to reach safety from rising water.  KWFR
  • Mike Castillo (who served nearly four years as Warning Coordination Meteorologist) now leads the National Weather Service in San Angelo and takes charge to improve weather reporting for the community.  FOX West Texas

HEALTH NEWS

  • The San Angelo/Tom Green County Health Department inspected local restaurants from March 1-7 and found many earned high scores, while a few had issues such as missing certified food managers and unclean facilities (as noted by health director Sandra Villarreal).  San Angelo Standard-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bronte ISD named Julian Helms as its new head football coach and athletic director on Thursday. He comes from Oglesby, where he served as defensive coordinator, and he replaces coaching legend Rocky Rawls as the district gears up for the new season.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Wall senior Wyatt Jost earned Texas High School Baseball Class 3A D-Bat Hitter of the Week after hitting 13-of-15 with two doubles and a triple during five wins last week & his team now has an eight-game win streak. Wall will play Thursday at Miles.  San Angelo LIVE!
