BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two San Angelo hotels (Residence Inn San Angelo) and (Home2 Suites San Angelo) are included in a $126 million financing package from Access Point Financial to American Hotel Income Properties REIT LP. The funds will be used to refinance, renovate and upgrade a portfolio of 12 select-service hotels under premium brands.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • Andrea Mendoza, 20, from San Angelo was arrested Sunday, March 16 for DWI after allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal hit-and-run that killed James Dwyer on Aug 4, 2024—she is set for a jury trial on April 21.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • A San Angelo woman (42-year-old Rachel Bustos) was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for stabbing her boyfriend with a 2-inch folding knife during a property dispute on Aug. 11 at Shannon Medical Center, and she is due in court on March 26.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 13th, murals were displayed in San Angelo featuring historic works such as the Elmer Kelton and Goodfellow Air Force Base murals and playful pieces inspired by Hokusai’s Great Wave. The art installations celebrated local heritage by depicting military history and native cultures while brightening downtown and nearby neighborhoods.  San Angelo Standard-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Blythe Meacham, a junior in the Angelo State University Honors Program (from Frisco) won the top prize for her research presentation at the 2025 Great Plains Honors Council Conference in Denton. She received a Dennis Boe Award (with a plaque and $200) and her work will be published in The Windmill.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the San Angelo City Council meets at 8:30 a.m. at the McNease Convention Center to discuss a tax abatement proposal for Zeppelin Energy Storage, review TIRZ incentives for nine private projects over $529,000, and consider contracts for roadway improvements including a traffic signal repair estimated at $185,625. The council will also hold a closed session on property tax assessments and debate naming March 29 as Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Day — a step to honor local veterans.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • The 2025 San Angelo LIVE! All-Star Girls Hoops Team was announced with Halle Hughes from Christoval named MVP and top players recognized from West Texas and the Concho Valley. The team also named co-offensive MVPs Cinzlea Stanton from San Saba + Anna Marie Whitworth from Mason, Defensive MVP Brylyn Watts from Wall, co-newcomers Kyndall Weston and Brook Kaiser from Sonora, and co-coaches Jerry McSherry from Ozona and Brad Blalock from Christoval.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The No. 4-ranked Angelo State Rambelles swept doubleheaders over the weekend by beating Western New Mexico 6-0 and 6-5 on Saturday and Eastern New Mexico 10-1 and 3-2 on Sunday at Mayer Softball Field—boosting their record to 26-4 overall and 17-3 in conference play while head coach Travis Scott reached 998 wins— and they will begin a 10-game road trip Friday, March 21.  San Angelo LIVE!
