  • The San Angelo Rodeo returns April 3 through April 19 with rodeo performances, a downtown parade, carnival rides, and live music. The parade on April 4 has a modified route due to construction, and ride passes are available as single-day or full-event options.  KWFR
  • A new state license plate that supports spay and neuter programs is available in Texas—each plate costing $30 contributes $22 to local shelters and nonprofit organizations as officials say the program has generated millions in grants to help reduce pet overpopulation.  KWFR

  • San Angelo’s popular SoCo Taphouse & Brew Co. at 113 E. Concho Ave., Suite 210 has been put up for sale, giving potential buyers a chance to continue its 11-year legacy.   • Local shops may remove popular hemp products due to new Texas rules that include THCA in total THC; owners warn that added licensing costs + potential shifts to unregulated options will challenge inventories before the March 31 deadline.  KWFR

  • Outriding the Devil will debut at Cinemark Tinseltown during the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo on April 8 at 7:00 p.m. The documentary recounts rodeo star Angela Ganter’s journey overcoming loss and Stage 4 breast cancer to return to the sport — a tribute to Western tenacity.  San Angelo LIVE!

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in San Angelo have reached an average of $3.85 per gallon today, a 43-cent rise from last year, and AAA Texas warns that if trends continue, rates may exceed $4 soon.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Record-breaking heat is expected to hit Concho Valley today through Sunday as forecasters predict highs in the mid to upper 90s, which could exceed San Angelo's 98°F record from 1908 + residents are urged to prepare for the early-season warmth.  KWFR
  • TPWD biologists recorded record blue catfish catch rates at E.V. Spence Reservoir last week near Robert Lee by sampling 338 fish measuring 13 to 33 inches. Officials encourage local anglers to fish the reservoir — most blue catfish are in good condition though natural reproduction has yet to occur.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new state law means SNAP benefits cannot be used for sugary drinks & candy starting April 1 as part of measures to promote healthier food choices. The changes will affect 3.5 million Texans and require retailers to update systems for compliance.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • The San Angelo Fire Department confirms a burn ban remains active in Tom Green County until further notice — officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning to reduce wildfire risk.  KWFR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Access to Breast Health for Texans program now offers free breast exams in San Angelo and will be available from March through May. The project uses a handheld device to give painless exams for women aged 18 to 40 — follow-up care is arranged if additional tests are needed.  San Angelo Standard-Times

  • Water Valley High School senior Landon Lacy was honored by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches on the All-State Team—he averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals as his Wildcats finished a 22-4 season, and he has committed to play football at Hardin-Simmons.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The No. 7 Wall Hawks dominated Grape Creek with a 28-0 win in a five-inning game on Thursday in Wall — scoring 12 runs in the first inning before finishing off with strong hitting and pitching. The team improved to 15-8 while Grape Creek struggled, setting up a rematch on Tuesday.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Brady’s powerlifter Samerra Reed took second in her weight class at the Class 3A Division II state meet last Thursday at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, lifting a total of 1,045 pounds. Other area athletes earned top finishes ahead of additional state meets this weekend.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Lake View Chiefs' boys soccer team (19-2-1) is heading to the playoffs today at Pecos High School against El Paso Austin Panthers, with kickoff at 2 p.m. The match offers an opportunity to extend their 19-game unbeaten streak.  San Angelo LIVE!
