COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On April 5, 2025, over 100 entries—including Stock Show and Rodeo Ambassadors carrying Texas flags—marched downtown in the San Angelo Rodeo Parade to kick off the annual rodeo.  San Angelo Standard-Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A rollover crash on FM 2288 happened yesterday morning (in the 3000 block of N. FM 2288 just south of Bison Trail at 9:15 a.m.) when a semi-truck collided with a car that rolled through a fence into a field, sending two people to the hospital including a man with a head injury while shutting down the road.  San Angelo LIVE!

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Walls are going up at Longhorn Steakhouse at 3980 Loop 306—next to Sunset Mall and across from Chili's Bar and Grill—as plumbing and foundation work are finished; the project received a $2.4 million permit and will likely open later this year or early next year.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • Corrections officers at the Tom Green County Jail reported 14 bookings in the past 24 hours that included charges of assault involving strangulation, burglary of a building and controlled substance possession after a probation revocation motion, with the facility now holding 436 individuals.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • A sign marking the site for the future Christoval Performing Arts Center was unveiled Tuesday morning in front of Christoval High School at 20454 Ranch Road 2084. The privately funded center—planned to include a 900-seat auditorium, band hall and multi-use lobby—will rely on community support during San Angelo Gives on May 6 to help reach its $1 million goal by the end of 2025.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 100 ASU students will showcase their research in two symposiums on Friday, April 11 at Houston Harte University Center (1910 Rosemont Drive). The undergraduate event will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. and the graduate event from 4 to 5:30 p.m., with free entry and light refreshments served.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tom Green County Commissioners Court announced Tuesday that the burn ban was lifted after last week’s rain ended months of dry conditions in the county. The court will meet again Tuesday, April 15 to reconsider the ban, and residents planning to burn large brush piles should call 325-665-8111.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Texas lawmakers are moving forward with bills to ease measles vaccine mandates even as West Texas has seen over 500 cases, 57 hospitalizations, and two child deaths since late January. Gov Abbott has directed resources to communities while vaccine supporters and critics debate if expanding exemptions will lead to more risks & more illnesses.  San Angelo Standard-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team will face West Texas A&M in a four-game LSC road series this weekend at Wilder Park in Canyon—games start Friday, April 11 at 4 p.m. and continue on Saturday and Sunday. The Rams hold a 61-42 record against the Buffs and recently won three of four games against St. Edward’s.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Today the Wall Hawks beat Clyde 13 to 2 to reach a 10 to 0 record in district play and will face Abilene High on Friday (the Christoval Cougars won 17 to 10 over Colorado City and the Ballinger Bearcats won 10 to 4 over Bangs, while the Lake View Chiefs lost back-to-back games including a 5 to 0 shutout loss at home by Lubbock Estacado).  KWFR
