COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Texas Parks and Wildlife will stock channel catfish in the North Concho River between Oakes and Irving Streets every two weeks until the end of October, with a break in August. The Neighborhood Fishin' program will let adults fish with a license and kids fish free to make urban fishing easier for families.  KWFR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Haverty’s Furniture on Knickerbocker Road will close at the end of June after serving San Angelo for more than 30 years; customers may still order discounted items from the regional warehouse + employees can transfer to other locations.  KWFR

CULTURE NEWS

  • San Angelo is getting a new outdoor amphitheater at Concho Valley Dragway, now in its final stages and expected to open late July (with plans to host concerts and community gatherings). Texas State Bank is the naming sponsor.  KWFR
  • ASU Mayer Museum will unveil three ceramic exhibits as part of the 41st Annual San Angelo Ceramic Symposium. The Opening Reception takes place on Wednesday, Apr. 15 from 5-8 p.m. at 2501 W. Ave N, featuring an ASU student exhibit, invited artists' works & a ceramic competition display.  San Angelo LIVE!

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In March, the San Angelo Area recorded 103 new drilling permits and 123 oil well completions, according to the Railroad Commission. The area ranked second statewide behind Midland, reflecting strong local energy production.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department stocked the Concho River with its first channel catfish of the season yesterday at Oakes Street Lake at 396 S. Irving St. Fish stocking will continue every two weeks through the end of October except August under the Neighborhood Fishin’ program.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tom Green County deputies received 60 M-PAK trauma kits from the Spirit of Blue Foundation on Apr. 10 to help improve emergency response for serious injuries in the field — the donation strengthens preparedness across the Concho Valley.  KWFR
  • Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources as severe weather threatens multiple regions over the weekend and into early next week — officials are urged to remain alert for hazards such as hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • San Angelo doctors are advising residents to start early allergy treatments as spring allergies peak due to oak pollen, which often triggers sneezing, congestion, and sinus pressure (fever and body aches usually indicate an infection). They recommend daily nasal rinses, antihistamines or nasal sprays and limiting pollen exposure for relief.  KWFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Concho Valley athletes have been selected for the TGCA All-Star Basketball Game on July 13 at Arlington High School. They are among 24 high school juniors statewide honored, including Wall’s Kenzzie Covert, Sterling City’s Christina Geary and Mason’s Flora Appleton — set to showcase their skills.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Hawley's Megan Powell posted a top 2.0-second time in breakaway roping on Friday at (CRC Roofers Coliseum) during the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, while Mineral Wells' Noah Lee earned second place in bull riding.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Wall’s track team swept the boys’ and girls’ titles at the District 6-3A Track and Field Meet on Thursday, April 9 in Wall as the girls scored 223 points and the boys earned 215 points to beat Jim Ned. Top athletes helped secure spots advancing to the area meet.  San Angelo LIVE!
