  • Camp Mystic's directors withdrew its summer reopening application on April 30 after deadly floods last summer claimed 28 lives — investigations continue as community members cope with the loss and face a permanent closure.  San Angelo Standard-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ASU will host former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm for a presentation on economic freedom on Tuesday, May 5, at the Houston Harte University Center. The event includes a luncheon and book signing at 11:45 a.m. (first 200 registrants receive a copy) and his talk at 12:30 p.m.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Reagan County Lady Owls won a 12-5 game over Stamford on Wednesday in Big Spring to secure their first area-round title and advance to the regional semifinals. They will face Clarendon or Tahoka next week as they prepare for a potential rematch with Haskell.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University baseball team, ranked No. 12 (they hold a 52-34 edge in the all-time series), will start their best-of-three Lone Star Conference Championship against Texas A&M-Kingsville this weekend with Saturday's game set for 3 p.m. at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Wall High School baseball coach Jeremy Gordon announced he will step down at season's end to join Austin Westlake (with an 85-19 record over three seasons) after leading the Hawks to a 2025 state title and a playoff win over Blanco.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Angelo State University softball team will end its season this weekend with four important games that affect conference and post-season positioning. They will play West Texas A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m. and face Eastern New Mexico on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mayer Softball Field.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Christoval Cougars swept Ozona Wednesday to win their first-round playoff series with an exciting eight-inning win in Game 2, led by William Nye and key contributions from teammates. The team will face Hawley or Bangs next week in the Class 2A Division I playoffs.  San Angelo LIVE!
