COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Eta Aquarids meteor shower peaks today and tomorrow evening with up to 50 meteors per hour visible for local skywatchers under clear skies. A bright, waning gibbous moon (which may interfere) could reduce the display.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • San Angelo Rodeo Ambassador tryouts will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 17 at the Roping Fiesta Arena, 4890 Grape Creek Road. Young women ages 13 to 24 who meet character and communication requirements must bring their horses' Coggins tests to participate.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Two former San Angelo residents will return next month for the Roundup in Good Company benefit concert at Historic Fort Concho Stables to support suicide prevention for young men in West Texas. Doors will open at 6 p.m. on June 26.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Malia Sherrod (founder of the Carlie Jo's Journey Memorial Scholarship) is speaking at the LIVE! Studio about the scholarship’s benefits and donation details during San Angelo Gives.  San Angelo LIVE!

BUSINESS NEWS

  • USA Rare Earth Inc., an Oklahoma-based company, is developing a domestic supply chain by launching a heavy rare earths project at Round Top Mountain in West Texas and a magnet facility in Stillwater; it aims to be fully operational by 2027-2028 following a government stake secured in January 2026.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Duane “Dog” Chapman—star of Dog the Bounty Hunter—will appear at San Angelo Comic Con at Spur Arena from June 5-7; fans can meet him, get autographs, and take photos during the event.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Fort Concho celebrated San Angelo’s rich polo history last weekend + raised funds for the San Angelo Symphony to support local arts.  FOX West Texas

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Angelo State Rambelles softball team ended their regular season last Sunday by splitting a doubleheader with Eastern New Mexico at Greyhound Softball Field, winning Game 1 13-5 and losing Game 2 5-1. The team is now the No. 3 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament—scheduled for Thursday through Saturday in Canyon.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Last week, the San Angelo Kiwanis Club hosted the 85th Little Olympics at San Angelo Stadium. Rain canceled the elementary meet on Friday while middle school athletes competed on Thursday.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Local youth Michael Rodriguez submitted his 8-inch, 0.4-pound Rio Grande Cichlid caught on Oakes Street to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for pending record certification, as officials noted no records exist for this species.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • In Game Three of the Area Round, the Wall Lady Hawks led early but fell 3–2 in the final inning to the Jacksboro Tigerettes — finishing with a strong 26–7 record this season.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The No. 2-seeded Angelo State baseball team beat Texas A&M-Kingsville 12-2 on Monday afternoon at Foster Field and advanced to the double-elimination portion of the LSC Championship. The team will travel to Tyler for a 2 p.m. contest against No. 3 St Mary's on Thursday.  San Angelo LIVE!
