COMMUNITY NEWS

  • San Angelo Gives is returning today as a 24-hour online fundraiser to support local nonprofits in the Concho Valley. Advanced donations began on April 22 and will be processed immediately during an early giving window—ending May 5—while last year the event raised over $4 million.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • Lake View High School was put on hold Monday after police received reports of a man walking near the school with a gun — the suspect did not enter the gun-free zone and remains unlocated — and school officials said the measure was taken as a precaution.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 23,000 homes in Tom Green County lost power Monday morning when severe storms caused a relay station issue near Rust Street and Highland Boulevard. AEP crews responded at 9 a.m. and had restored most power by 10 a.m.—officials confirmed.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the San Angelo City Council will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the McNease Convention Center to consider upgrades to the sidewalk code for ADA compliance, contracts including a $209,045.53 signage deal, and zoning revisions. The council will also discuss proposals for a 9-hole disc golf course at Jaime Padron Memorial Park — along with updates from Downtown San Angelo and the Animal Services Task Force, plus a closed session on real property transactions.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Thomas 'Tom' N. Thompson won the mayoral race with over 50 percent of the vote and avoided a runoff—voters will decide the City Council District 2 seat in a runoff election. San Angelo residents approved a $41.66 million Coliseum improvements bond and a $397 million ISD bond that will raise taxes for some property owners.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • TxDOT warned motorists to expect delays on southbound SL 378 on Chadbourne Street between US 87 and FM 1223 starting May 5 due to construction. Lane closures will continue until May 30 — drivers should allow extra time for travel and use designated driveway access.  San Angelo LIVE!
