- ➤ San Angelo Gives event raised a preliminary total of $4,156,822 through 10,567 donations to support 266 local nonprofits during its 24-hour online fundraiser that ended May 6 + advanced giving ran from April 22 through May 5 with several schools receiving full matching funds. San Angelo LIVE!
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ San Angelo native Alejandro Rodarte-Martinez was named ASU’s top graduate and Presidential Award recipient today—he led five other seniors in earning distinguished honors for academic excellence across the university’s colleges. San Angelo LIVE!
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office will host the Burgers, Dogs and Detectors event on May 10 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Carl Ray Johnson Recreation Center at 1103 Farr St where residents will receive free smoke detectors as supplies last + enjoy burgers, hot dogs and a chance to meet Fire Dog Sparky; the office also reminds local business owners to schedule their required annual fire inspections. - ➤ San Angelo voters will cast early ballots for the District 2 City Council runoff between Dudra Butler and Joe Self Jr. since no candidate won a majority in Saturday’s election, and early voting will be held at the Keyes Building May 27—31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and June 2—3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. San Angelo Standard-Times

- ➤ The City of San Angelo posted its latest health inspection scores for local restaurants. Five businesses received the lowest marks—ranging from 55 to 79—and some have not yet been inspected because they are not due for a review. San Angelo LIVE!
