COMMUNITY NEWS

  • San Angelo Animal Services suspended dogwalking at the shelter after reports showed abandoned dogs were linked to fatal cat attacks near the facility. Dogwalking will resume once the situation is resolved + officials stressed that safety for animals, staff, and the community is the top priority.  KWFR
  • San Angelo Elks Lodge #1880 at 2121 S. Chadbourne St. will serve free meals to veterans, first responders and their families this month—offering breakfast on Saturday, May 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and lunch on Saturday, May 23 featuring pulled pork and sides.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • B3, led by Texas songwriter Bryce Waters, will perform raw, high-energy cowboy punk rock at Arc Light Bar and Grill in San Angelo on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. with music starting at 9:00 p.m.; tickets are $5 in advance.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Railway Museum’s Model Train Jamboree kicks off a two-day event today in San Angelo, drawing hundreds of foamers (model train fans) from around the state.  FOX West Texas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 1,100 Angelo State graduates will walk the stage during five ceremonies on May 15–16 at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, receiving 32 doctoral, 422 master's, and 655 bachelor's degrees, including the school’s first Psy.D. and Ed.D. recipients. Other events include a signing day, pinning ceremony, and ROTC commissioning.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Glenmore Elementary celebrated its annual Donuts with Grownups event for Pre-K students on May 12 with a morning of story reading, donut-themed crafts and treats; the school marked the final parent engagement activity of the year.  KWFR
  • Central High School senior Uchechuckwu Joana Ezepue received the second JROTC Carolyn Ann Mioduski Scholarship from the Concho Valley Women Veterans Association for her leadership, academic success and community service, and she will begin a molecular biology degree at Howard University this fall in Washington, D.C.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo residents are encouraged to safely dispose of hazardous household items at the CRC Roofers Coliseum during the Household Hazardous Waste Event scheduled for Saturday, June 13 at 8 a.m.; city & county officials will share guidelines on accepted materials soon.  KWFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Police Chief Travis Griffith and Burt Sempier talk on the latest Chat with the Chief episode about recruiting and keeping officers, now streaming. The conversation aims to build community trust + plan new steps to keep more officers on duty.  FOX West Texas
  • The College Hills and Valleyview intersection in San Angelo will reopen by the end of this week or early next week as construction nearly finishes (city officials report) while crews prepare nearby land for future roadway improvements and potential rezoning updates.  KWFR
  • Street maintenance using the HA5 surface treatment is underway across town through May 19. Streets are set to close at 7 a.m. on treatment days and remain closed for 24 hours (to allow proper curing), while residents are advised to turn off sprinklers and avoid parking to prevent towing.  KWFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angelo State freshman Danaiya Amangazhiyeva was named South Central Region Rookie of the Year Tuesday by the ITA after a 19-3 singles and 16-9 doubles season. The honor follows the Belles’ record 22 wins & new school milestones.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State will send 16 student-athletes to compete in 15 events at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas from May 21 to 23 — the team will start on May 21 with Abril Okon in the heptathlon at 11 a.m.  San Angelo LIVE!
