  • San Angelo Chamber of Commerce has opened nominations for its 2026 20 Under 40 Awards. Applications are accepted until June 1 for young professionals in the Concho Valley who excel in leadership and community service.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • The San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Ambassadors held tryouts on Sunday, May 18 at the San Angelo Roping Fiesta Arena; participant James Bouligny took part while coach Kennedy King explained the qualities sought in future team ambassadors.  San Angelo LIVE!

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Abilene homebuilder Gene Lantrip said electricians are leaving housing projects to work on lucrative data center builds, delaying construction amid a population surge. State officials eased licensing requirements for out-of-state electricians to help meet the competing labor shortage in tech centers.  San Angelo Standard-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office announced San Angelo is recognized as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community (Travel Texas) after completing a rigorous certification process that supports local tourism, job creation, and economic growth.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Maverick McIvor — the former star at San Angelo Central — worked out for the defending Super Bowl champions last week during NFL offseason sessions. He also drew interest from the Cowboys and Bears but has not yet been signed.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo ISD announced on Monday that former MLB pitcher Harrison Musgrave was hired as the new head baseball coach for the Central Bobcats, bringing extensive coaching and playing experience from Texas and West Virginia — the district expects strong student-athlete development.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo Central released its 2026 football schedule that adds three new opponents along with seven returning teams. The Bobcats will open the season at home against Abilene High on Aug. 28 and face travel games at Mansfield Lakeridge and Andrews before district play begins on Oct. 16.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Panther Creek High School in Valera named Cameron Norris as its head football coach and athletic director—he returns after coaching from 2016 to 2019 with a 25 to 8 record and will replace Gary Beam, who left for a job in Fort Davis.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Lake View Chiefs named Jon-Reese Woodson as their new boys basketball coach, replacing Courtney Bliskey. Woodson, who led Class 3A Buffalo to the regional semifinals last season and was named his district’s Coach of the Year, aims to strengthen the program with discipline and teamwork.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State standouts Austin Beck and Brett Smajstrla earned All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association on Monday, adding the award to their season achievements as Beck posted a .339 average + 50 stolen bases and Smajstrla recorded key extra-base hits.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Four Angelo State softball players earned All-South Central Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners' Association; three were chosen for first-team (Addy Ewing, Zoey Sifuentes and Tatiana Trotter) and one for second-team (Kylie Forney).  San Angelo LIVE!
