CRIME NEWS

  • Corrections officers at Tom Green County Jail reported 9 bookings in the past 24 hours — the charges include smuggling persons, assault on a family or household member with a previous conviction and obstruction of property seizure, leaving 423 individuals in custody.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Central High School senior Korbin Jastrow won the 2025 Congressional Art Competition and her artwork, 'The Exception' (celebrating Texas agriculture and wildflowers), will be on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Alcohol & Drug Awareness Center for the Concho Valley and the Concho Valley CARES Coalition will host a free youth leadership camp at the Girl Scouts of Central Texas facility, 304 W. Ave. A—third to fifth graders attend from June 16-20 and sixth to eighth graders attend from June 23-27, with sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, free lunch and snacks provided, and registration closing on May 29.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • During Monday evening's meeting, four San Angelo ISD trustees were sworn in and the board unanimously re-elected Dr. Taylor Kingman as president following the May 3 election—Judge Gonzalo Rios administered the oath.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Angelo State University cheer team invites local students from pre-K through 12 to join its Football Spirit Day on Saturday, Sept. 20. Registration is now open online and the event will feature a cheer clinic from 8:30 to 11 a.m.—with a pregame tailgate and the chance to perform with the team and receive game tickets.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oil and gas companies are seeking legal protection as Texas nears the use of treated fracking water to ease shortages. San Angelo Rep. Drew Darby’s bill passed the House earlier and awaits a Senate debate so companies can treat and sell the water without extra liability — while experts warn that permits may not fully protect public safety.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The San Angelo City Council will swear in newly elected officials today at 8:30 a.m. at McNease Convention Center as Mayor Brenda Gunter presents election certificates and Judge Jay Daniel administers oaths following the May 3 canvassing that named Tom Thompson mayor, Patrick Keely for District 4, and Mary Coffey who ran unopposed—while a runoff for District 2 is set for June 7.  San Angelo LIVE!
