COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Meals For The Elderly Clay Shoot is set for June 13 at the San Angelo Claybird Association along U.S. Highway 67 South. The event offers friendly competition with breakfast, lunch, 100 clay shots and prizes up to $500; registration opened April 13 for teams to support this fundraiser.  KWFR
  • San Angelo’s Municipal Pool at 18 East Ave. A will open Tuesday, May 26 from noon to 6 p.m. until Aug. 2, charging $5 per person with season passes available + local splash pads and Brown’s Pool already offering summer options.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce has opened nominations for its 2026 20 Under 40 recognition (nominations accepted through June 1) to honor young professionals who show leadership and community involvement.  KWFR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Think in a Box will remain open after canceling its planned closing on May 24 — it will keep operating at the same location. Owner Lisa Lewis said that strong community support and progress in discussions with a potential buyer led to the decision.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At last night's board meeting, San Angelo ISD recommended new elementary attendance boundaries to balance enrollment for the 2027-28 school year. The Board will vote on the proposal on June 15 (vote scheduled) and will share more details (transition info) with families if approved.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo ISD will consider raising paid lunch prices by 25¢ at an upcoming meeting to meet federal guidelines while free breakfast remains available and reduced-price meals stay at 40¢. Officials say the change is needed to sustain the program.  KWFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo Regional Airport has completed a taxilane expansion that removed old pavement, installed new taxi lane sections, updated utility lines — and improved FAA communications oversight. Hoar Construction led the project beginning October 2025 in partnership with city officials to meet rising demand for private hangar space.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo was recognized by the state as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community after officials highlighted the city’s efforts to grow tourism and support local businesses (a recognition that could help attract more jobs and investments).  KWFR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Central cheerleader Madelyn Haddad signed with SMU Pom Squad on Monday night and became one of 25 chosen from 75 hopefuls — after training and trips to Dallas she prepared to perform at football games and metro events during her college years.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Quarterback Cristian Castro, a TLCA graduate, transferred to Angelo State University after playing his freshman season at Schreiner University. He originally signed with Fort Lauderdale but returns to San Angelo to join ASU, known for its competitive football program.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Dave Campbell’s Texas Football released a list of the state’s 10 longest active head coaches and noted that three have Concho Valley ties. Former San Angelo Central coach Brent Davis, who turned a 13-game losing streak team into a playoff contender, is ranked No. 8 with 31 years of service.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State Baseball ended its season after losing two straight games to UT Tyler at the South Central Regional Tournament over the weekend. Head coach Kevin Brooks held a press conference at the Junell Center on Monday, discussing plans to bounce back next season after a 42-19 record.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Two Wall Hawks and a Lady Hawk from Wall High School signed with three universities on Monday (Collin Garcia, Rueben Martin and Riley Moon) to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, with families, friends and coaches celebrating the milestone.  San Angelo LIVE!
