  • The Cook Off for Kian is a barbecue fundraiser held June 6—7 at 3002 State Highway 158 in Ballinger that will raise funds to help pay for 15-year-old Kian Francis's treatment for acute myeloid leukemia. Raymond Francis, a veteran of the San Angelo Police Department, and his wife Candace, a nurse at Tom Green County Jail—host the event to cover his medical expenses.  San Angelo LIVE!

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-vehicle crash at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20th — near the intersection of the Loop 306 frontage road and Sherwood Way — sent a woman and her infant child to the hospital in San Angelo.  San Angelo LIVE!

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Repeated water main breaks along Sherwood Way have hurt local businesses by cutting revenue and disrupting services, with one owner reporting a 50% loss while customers avoid muddy parking areas. The City of San Angelo is developing an engineering plan to replace the old cast iron main later this year—aiming to limit water shutoffs during evening hours for minimal impact.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • San Angelo police arrested 34-year-old Alvaro Saucedo on May 18 for firing guns toward homes on the 600 block of East 25th Street; officers found multiple shell casings, fresh bullet holes on a fence, and three weapons, and a neighbor’s RV was caught in the line of fire.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University opened its $10.2 million aviation training center at 8450 Hangar Road on the east side of Mathis Field yesterday. The 15,000-square-foot facility supports the Bachelor of Commercial Aviation program and features a hangar lobby—advanced classrooms, briefing rooms, and flight simulators—funded by federal, local, and private donations.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The San Angelo Pan American Golf Association awarded $34,000 in scholarships to 34 local high school seniors during a ceremony Tuesday at the Jim Bass Ford Dealership showroom—each student received $1,000. The chapter, founded in 1966 and a top scholarship provider in West Texas, celebrated the achievements of the recipients.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday morning, new city officials were sworn in at the McNease Convention Center—Mayor Tom Thompson, who resigned his District 2 seat with a runoff on June 7, and Councilmembers Patrick Keely and Mary Coffey—and the move marks a change in city leadership; outgoing councilmembers were honored and former Mayor Brenda Gunter received the key to the city.  San Angelo LIVE!
