ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-vehicle crash occurred at 2:30 p.m. on May 21 at the intersection of the Loop 306 frontage road and Sherwood Way when a Chevy Yukon and a black Dodge pickup collided, sending a woman and her child to Shannon Medical Center—while the pickup driver was cited.  KWFR
  • Flames erupted on Wednesday at Aura Square Apartments on Sherwood Way when a fire broke out around 4:30 p.m., forcing 20 to 30 residents to evacuate as four fire engines, a rescue truck, and an ambulance arrived—firefighters then conducted mop-up operations while investigators examined the cause and police restricted westbound traffic.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pat Green, a well-known Texas country singer, spoke before his show at Cooper’s BBQ/Live! in Christoval last Friday and recalled his early days playing in San Angelo with local musicians. He said he plans to perform three new songs in the coming week—adding that live shows keep him closely connected to his fans and family.  FOX West Texas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The San Angelo ISD Board received its first update on the $397M bond package approved earlier this month, with planning already underway for construction that will begin this summer. Architects and district officials outlined projects including Crockett Elementary renovations, safety upgrades, and a complete rebuild of Glenn Middle School—meetings are scheduled to continue through 2029.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Jim Bass Ford presented 34 scholarships to local students during a special event in San Angelo. The awards recognize student achievement and support education in the community.  FOX West Texas
  • Angelo State University gave three professors the 2025 President’s Awards for Faculty Excellence—Curtis for Leadership/Service, Kelley for Research/Creative Endeavor, and Kelly for Teaching—and each received $2,500 plus a Signature Presidential Recognition Award while Kelley and Kelly were named as nominees for the Texas Tech University System Chancellor’s Awards.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Tom Thompson was sworn in at McNease Convention Center on May 21st along with new council members Patrick Keeley and Mary Coffey for districts 4 and 6; he honored outgoing officials by awarding plaques to Larry Miller and Lucy Gonzales and a key to former Mayor Brenda Gunter for her service. A runoff election for district 2 is set with early voting from May 27 to June 3 and Election Day on June 7.  KWFR
  • The City of San Angelo Water Utilities Department announced it will switch from chloramine to free chlorine from May 30 to June 30 for water system maintenance—residents may notice a stronger chlorine taste, smell, and slight discoloration that will fade in a couple of weeks.  San Angelo LIVE!
