CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake View High School mariachi and Chiefettes performed aboard the USS Intrepid in New York this week, honoring US military service with guided tours, a Chelsea Market visit, and a dinner cruise on the Hudson River (a memorable showcase of their talent).  San Angelo LIVE!

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In April, San Angelo’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.1 percent — tying with College Station-Bryan for the third-lowest rate among local metro areas, the Texas Workforce Commission reported. The figure marks a decrease from March’s 3.2 percent amid statewide job gains.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter today to all Texas public institutions to freeze tuition and fees for the 2026-27 academic year so that every student can access affordable higher education.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • ADACCV is organizing a Youth Leadership Camp — a hands-on event that teaches local youth the benefits of volunteering, setting goals and living addiction-free. The camp will help teens learn skills for better community involvement.  FOX West Texas

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Bronte auto repair owner discovered nearly 11 months late that a $90,000 default judgment was entered when notices were sent to the wrong address; he has filed a petition to vacate the ruling with a conference set (2 p.m. July 2) in Tom Green County Court.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No. 3 Wall Hawks face the No. 4 Paradise Panthers in state semifinals at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene today at 7:00 p.m. + they will battle to advance to the state championship in Round Rock.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State freshman sprinter William Opare was named the U.S. Track and Field Division II National Track Athlete of the Year on Wednesday—he won three national crowns at the track meet with times in the 200- and 400-meter races and became the first ASU athlete to earn this outdoor title.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Two members of Angelo State's softball team earned All-American honors as Zoey Sifuentes was named second-team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Tatiana Trotter was named third-team (also recognized by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association), marking the program’s 38th and 39th honors this season.  San Angelo LIVE!
