CRIME NEWS

  • A San Angelo woman, Mandy Meloon, 44, was arrested on May 26 at 12:30 a.m. after she swung an open pair of scissors at two victims near her trailer on Fisherman’s Road while trying to hang her clothes on a neighbor’s clothesline+ she is now held on a $25,000 bond.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University now offers a helicopter pilot training track (one of few in the nation) in its Bachelor of Commercial Aviation program starting this fall. Students will take classroom courses and train on three new Schweizer helicopters (preparing them for roles in EMS, law enforcement, search and rescue, and more) as part of the expanded aviation program.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo ISD will offer free breakfast and lunch to children and teens 18 and younger through its 2025 Summer Meal Program starting Monday, June 2 — no registration or paperwork is needed. Meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at several walk-in sites including Goliad Elementary, Southside Boys & Girls Club, Glenmore Elementary, Lake View High School, Fannin Elementary and Bowie Elementary.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University will launch a new helicopter pilot degree track this fall as part of its Bachelor of Commercial Aviation program—students can enroll in courses like aviation administration, air traffic operations, and flight operations. The program follows the opening of the new Aviation Training Facility at San Angelo Regional Airport—Mathis Field and builds on its success since fall 2021.  FOX West Texas

  • Dove Creek VFD opened Station 2 today just off 277—bringing backup coverage to a service area of about 300 miles.  FOX West Texas

HEALTH NEWS

  • MHMR Concho Valley opened its Crisis Diversion Center yesterday at 250 N. Magdalen St.—the new facility offers short-term care for those facing mental health or substance use crises to help them avoid jail and emergency room visits.  San Angelo LIVE!
