- ➤ San Angelo's Sierra Oglesby (an eighth-grader at Trinity Lutheran School) tied for 196th place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals that aired Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., part of a national event featuring nine finalists including two Texas students from a field of 247 spellers. - ➤ Angelo State University earned the FAA’s Enhanced AT-CTI designation and CTO-P approval, giving Air Traffic Operations students a pathway to bypass the FAA Academy for tower training at sites including San Angelo Regional Airport-Mathis Field after launching their new degree track less than a year ago. - ➤ Dave Campbell’s Texas Football released its list of the state’s top 10 high school quarterbacks, naming Sweetwater’s 'Slingin' Sammy Baugh as its lone West Texas pick while San Angelo QBs did not qualify; Landon York threw 7,786 yards and 107 touchdowns to lead the Hawks to a 2025 state title.
