COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local fundraiser was launched to help Alexandria Golding, who suffered severe burns when an electrical wire snapped on Saturday, February 15. Organized by resident Alisha Bell, the campaign has raised over $11,000 of its $13,000 goal + the money will pay for Golding’s medical care and recovery.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo State Park announced its free June lineup with a Full Moon Hike on Wednesday, June 11 from 9 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. at the Playground Parking Lot, S’mores with a Ranger on Saturday, June 14 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Site 62, Scavenging for Scorpions on Saturday, June 21 from 9 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. at the Chaparral Pavilion, a Women’s Hike on Sunday, June 22 from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Isabel Harte Parking Lot, and a Star Party on Wednesday, June 25 from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.—bison and longhorn viewings are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 9 a.m.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Annual American Plains Artists Summer Show returns on June 19 at Fort Concho with a free opening from 5:30—7 p.m. held in the Barracks 6 exhibit hall at Henry O. Flipper and Burgess streets—refreshments will be available and the art will capture the spirit of the American West with depictions of farming, ranching, cowboys and Native Americans.  KWFR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas House of Representatives adjourned sine die Monday after Rep. Drew Darby of San Angelo secured major wins including a 25% pay raise for local district judges—his session also passed tough laws against organized oilfield crime. Darby filed 64 bills this session, securing $5 million for Angelo State University’s Center for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and supporting measures for schools and infrastructure that now await the governor’s review.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Concho Valley Transit updated its Routes 5 and 7 effective June 2 with new stops that improve access to health care, education and residences. Route 5 now stops at La Esperanza Clinic on Buick Street while Route 7 expands service in College Hills for Angelo State University and local shopping — riders can track buses in real time with the Passio GO! app.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees approved a $305K change order on Monday morning at the SAISD Administration Building—this action came after crews discovered deteriorated drain lines that did not connect to new floor drains during the Central Oakes sewer line replacement project.  San Angelo LIVE!
