- ➤ Local organizers plan a barbecue cook-off from June 6-7 at 3002 State Highway 158 in Ballinger to raise funds for 15-year-old Kian Francis, who is battling acute myeloid leukemia; the event will offer meat competitions and games + a silent auction to support the Francis family's medical needs. - ➤ Nacho’s Restaurant Cantina and Grill in San Angelo is launching a pay it forward program to support those in need — the initiative will offer help to community members. FOX West Texas
- ➤ A youth fishing derby is scheduled for Saturday at Celebration Bridge behind the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts from 7:30 a.m.—10 a.m. Participants aged 1–6, 7–12, and 13–17 will compete for prizes based on the most fish caught and largest fish while free donuts and juice are available while supplies last. - ➤ Tom Green County libraries are launching a summer reading initiative to help young students stay engaged during the break—studies show that test scores often drop over the summer. The program will offer activities and resources so kids can keep learning outside of school. FOX West Texas
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Tuesday's meeting, the San Angelo City Council discussed issuing $41.66 million in Coliseum bonds and weighed a competitive bid sale against a negotiated sale that would offer local banks an early buying window — council decisions are expected soon. If approved, funds will be delivered by Aug. 14 — local banks may receive priority access. San Angelo LIVE!
