The family of Annie Bell Samuel, a 103-year-old community leader known as Bigmama, launched a GoFundMe to cover her funeral costs after discovering she outlived her term life insurance policy; she passed away May 18, and donations have reached $1,200 of a $10,000 goal.

Food Bank of West Central Texas is launching a monthly Senior Resource Day and Drive-Thru Pantry in San Angelo to provide older adults with food and essential supplies.

The annual Free Fishing Day will take place on Saturday, June 6 offering free fishing at public waterways, and local anglers in San Angelo can explore the Neighborhood Fishin’ lake and join TPWD fishing lessons and prize drawings—an event designed to encourage outdoor fun.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts will host Family Day on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Education Studio at 1 Love Street — featuring a chalk art competition judged by local artist Ashley Perales, free clay activities and a children's book giveaway.

Governor Greg Abbott today awarded a $24,961 grant to the Concho Valley Workforce Development Board to train 37 workers in advanced flux core welding at Long Industries in San Angelo, and the award was presented during a local ceremony with leaders from Long Industries and Howard College.

Gov. Abbott and the Texas Veterans Commission announced $40.8M in grants to support over 125,000 veterans and families by providing housing, counseling, and financial aid—helping ensure essential services remain accessible statewide.

The program will improve veteran support across Texas.

Four West Texas rodeo competitors, including San Angelo tie-down ropers Joel Harris (4th), Dylan Hancock (7th) and Ty Harris (20th) as well as barrel racer Jordan Driver (16th), are fighting to earn a spot in the National Finals Rodeo with several rodeos in Texas coming soon to decide their chances.

Lake View Chiefs revealed their fall football schedule featuring three new opponents including a first-ever matchup with Pflugerville Connally.

The team will open with a road game at Fort Stockton on Aug. 28 before their home debut against Snyder.

Angelo State finalized its 2026 football schedule with six home games for the first time since 2019.

The Rams will open the season on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium + host Homecoming on Oct. 10 before closing with a game on Nov. 7.
