COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today the San Angelo Police Department marked a somber anniversary—honoring Sergeant Korby Kennedy, an officer who died in the line of duty, with a memorial service that recalled his sacrifice for the community.  FOX West Texas

CRIME NEWS

  • Emilio Partida, 45, was arrested on Tuesday for interfering with a DPS aircraft during a police operation—he shone a laser pointer at the helicopter, was booked on a class A misdemeanor charge, and later released on a $7,500 bond.  San Angelo Standard-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sunset Mall will host Art Until Sunset 2025 (a community celebration of art, music, shopping, and family fun) on Saturday, July 26 from 12 to 6 p.m. Organizers Storming Designs and local artist Wendy Woodring are inviting artists to apply by June 30 and sponsors to commit by July 14 (ensuring their logos appear in event materials).  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo will host Fourth of July events that include a live concert, cannon blast, and fireworks at Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage on July 3 — the show begins at 7 p.m. with music and synchronized fireworks around 9:35 p.m. Other events include a Lake Nasworthy firework show on July 4 at dusk and a parade in Wall at 10 a.m., with police warning that using fireworks illegally near city limits can lead to a $2,000 fine.  San Angelo Standard-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday night, Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 3070 that bans online lottery ticket sales and disbands the Texas Lottery Commission—oversight will move to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation starting Sept 1 and in-person sales will be limited to 100 tickets until lawmakers review the lottery in 2029.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • San Angelo City Council approved a resolution today that supports a private fundraising effort by the San Angelo Mommy + Me Play Group to raise $25K for a new shade structure at the Webster Park tot lot. Funds will be managed by the San Angelo Parks Foundation and may lead to similar projects at other playgrounds if the effort succeeds.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • San Angelo’s Charleys Philly Steaks at Sunset Mall closed permanently after inspectors on April 8 and again on April 28 found a roach infestation, slime buildup in the ice machine, and unsanitary food practices—Health Services Director Sandra Villarreal confirmed the shutdown on June 25.  San Angelo LIVE!
