COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wings of Rescue, the nation’s largest air transport charity for pets, will operate in San Angelo tomorrow — at about 11 a.m. pets from flood zones will be loaded at Ranger Aviation and flown to Fort Worth for transfer to the Humane Society of North Texas.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Smoothie King in San Angelo is starting a flood relief donation drive today at 1819 Knickerbocker Road, Suite 104, where donors who bring essential items will receive a free 20-ounce smoothie— the drive runs until Sunday, July 13 during store hours.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo officials are asking volunteers to log flood damage entries in the state’s iSTAT system, with training beginning at 9:30 a.m. today at the H-E-B Community Center (located near the fairgrounds) and (volunteers should bring water bottles and prepare for lots of walking).  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Cavender’s Western Outfitter in San Angelo gave free relief supplies to flood victims Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its store on 2520 Southwest Blvd — no purchase was required.  San Angelo LIVE!

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 4, rescue and relief crews responded to heavy flooding as a long-time firefighter and an aspiring first responder shared their experiences—discussing lessons learned during the emergency operation.  FOX West Texas

  • Old Central Firehouse Pizzeria opened its second location on Lake Nasworthy on the Fourth of July holiday — it offers a tap bar, full pizza menu and water market while serving Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  San Angelo Standard-Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo State Park has partially reopened after flooding, with areas like Red Arroyo, Isabel Harte, Lakeview Day-use, and Riverbend Campgrounds open while trails north of Burkett and some campgrounds remain closed. Officials warn visitors to be cautious of displaced wildlife, snakes, biting insects, and debris from the North Concho River near O.C. Fisher Lake.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents can dispose of items for free at the city landfill if they bring a valid ID and a recent utility bill—city residents must show a water bill while county residents must show an electric bill. The landfill at 3002 Old Ballinger Highway is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.—it is closed on Sundays.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Tomorrow at 3 p.m. the City Council will meet at McNease Convention Center to decide on extending the disaster declaration from the July 4 storm and flash flooding. The meeting will also review more than $1.35 million in emergency contracts for debris removal and monitoring — efforts that city staff estimate will take 90 to 120 days.  San Angelo LIVE!
