COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 100 shelter pets left San Angelo today as 107 dogs and cats were flown out for foster and adoption placements—volunteers coordinated the effort with Wings of Rescue and Best Friends Animal Society to make room for animals displaced by the July 4 floods.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • After the historic July 4 flood, Convoy of Hope partnered with local churches in San Angelo and Kerrville to distribute food, water, hygiene items, baby kits, and cleaning supplies—supporting thousands of residents across affected counties. By Saturday afternoon, the organization reported that over 100,000 pounds of supplies had reached 10,000 people, and it will continue its recovery efforts in Tom Green County and nearby areas.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • Mason Joseph Taylor, 28, from San Angelo was indicted on capital murder, murder and tampering with evidence charges for fatally shooting Hunter Seth Joyner during a domestic fight on Oct. 1 — he was released on $375,000 bond on July 7 and his case is pending in the 119th District Court.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Flooding on Short Street left one home reachable only by boat as city crews began pumping millions of gallons of water to reduce the risk of further damage. Mayor Thompson and the fire department coordinated rescue efforts—officials caution that unapproved water relocation could block emergency routes and create environmental hazards.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Gov. Abbott has called a special legislative session that will begin July 21 in Austin— the session will address improving flood warning systems, emergency communications, and relief funding for Hill Country floods while also reviewing vetoed bills on issues like eliminating the STAAR test and cutting property taxes.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • San Angelo City Council voted unanimously on Thursday to extend the disaster declaration for 90 days after the July 4 storm caused flash flooding and damage to homes and infrastructure. They also approved emergency contracts worth $1.35 million for debris removal and monitoring services — crews will start mobilizing next week and a press conference is scheduled at 2 p.m. today at City Hall.  San Angelo LIVE!
