EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ San Angelo ISD is considering a $10.3 million expansion that will improve Crockett Elementary and upgrade safety systems while voting on a proposal to allow homeschooled students to join UIL teams by Sept. 1. The board will also vote on a new teacher compensation plan that gives teachers with five or more years a $5,000 raise, with raises of $2,500 for those with three to four years and $1,500 for new teachers—moves designed to address budget challenges. - ➤ San Angelo officials have resumed regular trash service in most areas and will start clearing flood debris in the hardest-hit spots on Monday, July 21—residents should place debris near curbs to keep streets clear. City crews are spraying for mosquitoes and placing mosquito dunks in standing water—measures aimed at reducing mosquito breeding in flood-affected areas. San Angelo LIVE!

- ➤ The City of San Angelo has appointed Brandon Dyson as its new city attorney after nine months of vacancy. City Manager Daniel Valenzuela said Dyson’s six months as interim city attorney earned his selection and Mayor Tom Thompson praised his appointment. San Angelo Standard-Times
- ➤ FEMA released a fact sheet today that instructs homeowners with storm and flood damage from July 2 to begin cleaning up without waiting for inspections—residents should check for structural damage, take labeled photos, wear protective clothing, and keep receipts while separating damaged items from undamaged ones. They are advised to use the FEMA mobile app or call the Helpline for further assistance and to visit a Disaster Recovery Center in San Angelo for in-person help. San Angelo LIVE!

- ➤ Angelo State University will host its 2025 Lone Star Summer Showcase Camp on Sept. 13 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium for high school players ages 15—19. The $150 camp will offer baseball drills, coaching instruction, and a live game in a professional-style format. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ Wall High School’s Gunnar Dillard and Gage Reichenau were named to the Maxpreps Small Town All-America Team, with only 60 players honored nationwide. Dillard, who signed with the University of Oklahoma, and Reichenau, the THSCA Class 3A Player of the Year with a 14-0 record, helped Wall win its second state title in June — a rare feat for the small town. - ➤ The Angelo State women’s golf team earned the 10th-highest team GPA in NCAA Division II with a 3.83 average for the 2024-25 academic year, as announced Tuesday by the WGCA in its All-Scholar Team awards.
