  • San Angelo READS! + United We Read Back-to-School Pop-Up will be held on Friday, August 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CRC Roofers Coliseum on E 43rd Street, offering free school supplies, books, food and health services for families; last year over 1,000 people attended and local partners have pledged to make this event even bigger.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • A family-run ice cream shop — located in an old bus station at 37A W. Concho Ave. — was named on Yelp’s national list for best ice cream shops and is known for its handcrafted treats made from scratch that have built a loyal following.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo ice cream shop The Latest Scoop earned rank 39 on Yelp's top 100 list for 2025 based on customer reviews to celebrate National Ice Cream Day, which will occur on July 20. The shop (located at 37A W Concho Ave) has served homemade ice cream since 2017.  San Angelo Standard-Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Frank Alton Martinez, 42, was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after a Tom Green County jury found him guilty of attacking a woman with a machete at Shannon Medical Center during an April 15, 2024 assault when she arrived injured at 2:12 a.m.—evidence linked him to the crime and highlighted his violent past.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Juelz Sincere Armstead, a San Angelo man, was sentenced to 245 years in federal prison on July 15 for sextorting nine minors and one adult by using social media to pressure victims into sending explicit images—law enforcement said his sentence will protect the public.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott held a press conference today in San Angelo about Texas’ response to severe flooding. He was joined by state and local officials (Senator Charles Perry, Representative Drew Darby, TDEM Chief Nim Kidd, Tom Green County Judge Lane Carter, Mayor Tom Thompson, and Fire Chief Patrick Brody) to outline ongoing efforts to support affected areas.  KWFR
  • Governor Greg Abbott spoke at Spur Arena yesterday and praised Tom Green County for its quick steps before the July floods while noting that 135 people died across the state—federal aid is now available as San Angelo’s Disaster Recovery Center helps residents recover.  San Angelo LIVE!
