COMMUNITY NEWS

  • San Angelo State Park is celebrating 30 years with a photo contest that invites the public to share images of its trails, wildlife, and landscapes; submissions are accepted now until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 30+Park staff will select finalist images for public voting and feature the winning photo on the park’s social media.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Concho is hosting two events in late July to celebrate San Angelo’s cowboy heritage and honor the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers. On Saturday, July 26, activities at Barracks 6 start at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast and a talk by Laura Huckaby followed by a skit at 10 a.m.—and on Monday, July 28, the anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers’ formation will be marked with remarks from Lt. Gen. Ronnie Hawkins and a special viewing of exhibits.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • A San Angelo skateboard crew released 'DAY DREAM'—a film that took over a year to complete and premiered on YouTube on July 18, with director Jacob Flores asking local residents to help give the project the recognition it deserves while capturing memories of growing up with friends.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After the Matlock family spoke at a public comment period, the San Angelo ISD board voted 5-2 on Monday to opt out of Senate Bill 401—keeping homeschool students from joining UIL activities like sports, band and debate next school year.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The 17th Training Wing at Goodfellow AFB is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Honorary Commander Program which runs for 12 months from November to November and offers San Angelo community members a chance to learn about military customs and participate in key events like the Air Force Ball. Applicants must submit their forms by August 29—ensuring they join a diverse group of local professionals engaged in the program.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • U.S. Rep. Pfluger is hosting mobile office hours today in San Saba at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help flood victims replace documents lost in the July 4th flood—he said his team will also be available in San Angelo today from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and on July 24 at the Concho Valley Transit Annex for additional assistance.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo began removing flood debris Monday with crews working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays — residents must sort their materials correctly or they will not be picked up. The City Council approved a $1 million task order with Ceres Environmental on July 10 and the Disaster Resource Center extended its hours to provide federal aid.  San Angelo Standard-Times
