- ➤ Kirby Park Splash Pad is open at 1402 Edmund Blvd.—open daily from noon to 8 p.m.—and was built with nearly $875,000 in donations plus $150,000 in in-kind contributions from local partners including All-Tex Irrigation and Art in Uncommon Places. - ➤ Disaster relief groups are offering free flood cleanup help to residents in flood-affected areas of San Angelo, and Team Rubicon, Texans on Mission, Samaritan’s Purse, and CORE are ready to assist—Minuteman Disaster Response will leave this weekend while residents can call Galilee CDC for more information. - ➤ Fort Concho is hosting two free events in late July to honor Western heritage—on Saturday the American Plains Artists Summer Art Show will begin with a continental breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. gallery talk by curator Laura Huckaby and a 10 a.m. skit by the Concho Cowboy Company, with paintings available for sale to support the fort and its artists. On Monday the fort will join the Buffalo Soldiers West Texas Memorial to mark the 159th anniversary of the law that established all-Black military units, with retired Lt. Gen. - ➤ Sarah Grace Hernandez of TLCA in San Angelo was named Region 15 Outstanding Principal of the Year—an honor that shows her strong leadership in education. FOX West Texas
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Angelo State women’s tennis program earned ITA All-Academic Team honors while seven players—Margaux Rene, Mieke Van Deventer, Elise Gillis, Eva Schwartz, Jessica Li, Ivet Stancheva, and Mary-June Quinn—met a 3.5 GPA to be named ITA Scholar-Athletes, marking the eighth consecutive year the program has received this accolade. - ➤ Central High School assistant principal Crystal King was named Region 15 Assistant Principal of the Year on Tuesday by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals—recognizing her 24 years of experience and leadership in education. - ➤ Angelo State University earned the FAA’s AT-CTI designation for its new Air Traffic Operations degree track—making it the only institution in Texas and the 26th nationwide to offer this air traffic control training benefit. Students who earn a Bachelor of Commercial Aviation will bypass the first five weeks of training at the FAA Academy, and plans call for pursuing an enhanced designation in the future. - ➤ Former San Angelo Central football coach Brent Davis was elected President-Elect of the Texas High School Coaches Association for the 2025-26 school year.
