- ➤ San Angelo's family event River Fest returns after a seven-year break and will take place on Sept. 27 along the Concho River—featuring youth football, three-on-three basketball, a skateboard contest, a petting zoo with pony rides, live music under the Chadbourne Street bridge instead of the River Stage, a Vega washer pitching contest, food trucks, and craft vendors with more details to follow. - ➤ Fort Concho will host the second annual Fess Parker Fess-tival on Aug. 16 — the event will include free morning historical reenactments with period games, a look-a-like contest, and breakfast, followed by a Walt Disney movie screening with a trivia quiz in the evening to honor Fess Parker’s legacy. - ➤ On Tuesday, the San Angelo City Council directed staff to apply for federal funding through the Emergency Watershed Protection Program to help buy flood-prone properties after the July 4 storm—aiming to reduce future risks where rebuilding is not feasible. Operations Director Patrick Frerich explained that the voluntary process would use a 75% federal and 25% local cost-share to support mitigation and armoring projects. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ Yesterday, the City Council approved over $2 million in flood recovery efforts and waived permit fees for flood-damaged properties while also backing resolutions for a future interstate expansion and authorizing a land purchase for road improvements—furthermore, the council extended the Santa Fe Municipal Golf Course contract and issued a proclamation celebrating local native Fess Parker as his 101st birthday is set for August 16 at Fort Concho.
