  • Tanya Burwick, a 62-year-old San Angelo resident who died during the July 4 flooding, is honored today at the Walmart Neighborhood Market — 1852 Sherwood Way — where her favorite parking spot was memorialized with a yellow ribbon on a dark blue background and remains available for public use.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The San Angelo Animal Shelter is nearing capacity and several long-stay dogs may face euthanasia if they are not adopted soon. Concho Valley PAWS announced that Red Paw K9 LLC is offering seven free dog training lessons with each adoption — the fee is reduced to $25 for at-risk dogs.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • A firearm stolen during a vehicle burglary in Ozona was recovered in San Angelo on Aug. 4 after a multi-agency investigation led by the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office—San Angelo police and a Texas Ranger aided in locating the weapon, and the suspect remains unidentified.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • A two-day manhunt in San Angelo ended Thursday morning when Joe Lucio, age 40, barricaded himself in a home on Gregory Drive and fell through the ceiling while deputies used chemical munitions — he was later booked without bond on charges including felony bail jumping and failure to appear.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • Tomorrow, Aug. 9, National Book Lovers Day will be celebrated in San Angelo as locals are encouraged to visit bookstores and libraries—Old Town Books, Cactus Book Shop, Rita's Book Exchange, Teacher Store and the Tom Green County Library System—to enjoy their favorite reading spots.  San Angelo Standard-Times

  • FEMA officials told Central Texans that homeowners, renters and students affected by July flooding have until Sept. 4 to apply for disaster relief—applications can be submitted at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 8006213362.  San Angelo LIVE!

  • The San Angelo/Tom Green County Health Department inspected food establishments from July 20 to 26 and found violations such as sticky cooler doors and food stored less than six inches off the floor—some outlets earned perfect scores while others failed compliance under state food safety rules.  San Angelo Standard-Times
