CRIME NEWS

  • Bill Bowers, a 55-year-old San Angelo facility manager, turned himself in on felony charges for tampering with government records as part of the Ghost Deer investigation, which has implicated 24 people with over 1,400 charges for illegal deer smuggling across 11 counties.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Angelo State University honored 84 student-athletes with the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award for excelling in academics and sports—Rambelles track led with 15 selections, followed by baseball and volleyball. The award requires athletes to maintain a 3.5 GPA and complete at least two years of college coursework.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tropical Storm Erin is strengthening and is expected to become a major hurricane by Sunday—models show it will curve north and pose little threat to Texas. Invest 98L, a system moving from near Mexico with a 20% chance to form, could bring heavy rain and localized flooding to South Texas by the weekend—though it is not forecast to directly affect San Angelo.  San Angelo Standard-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department begins offering fully digital hunting and fishing licenses today—hunters can still choose paper options if they prefer. Digital license holders must use their mobile device with the Texas Hunt & Fish app for showing their license and tagging their harvests.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Local officials in San Angelo remind drivers to stop 20 feet away from school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop sign until the bus moves again to protect students returning to campus.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The City of San Angelo will host a job fair on Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McNease Convention Center at 501 Rio Concho Drive—more than 30 positions in city departments will be available through on-the-spot interviews as Workforce Solutions of the Concho Valley partners with the event.  San Angelo LIVE!
