COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce announced its 20 Under 40 award honorees for 2025 — they were chosen for their professional success, community work and leadership. The awards ceremony will be held Oct. 23 to honor these young professionals.  San Angelo Standard-Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Sunset Mall in San Angelo now has a new food stop called Mad Messy located at 4001 Sunset Drive in the former Charleys Philly Steaks space. Mad Messy offers Philly cheesesteaks, burgers, sandwiches and kid's meals — and it will soon add DoorDash and San Angelo To Go for takeout orders, with hours from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.  San Angelo Standard-Times

CRIME NEWS

  • San Angelo man Shelton Bailey McDonald, 29, was indicted on six felony counts for a Halloween crash on Oct. 31, 2024 at U.S. 87 and March Road that killed a 10-year-old and another driver — his charges include two counts of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — and he remains in Tom Green County Jail without bond.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University will host Rambunctious Week from Aug. 20-24—starting with student move-ins at 8 a.m. on Aug. 20 and featuring over 20 events that lead up to fall classes beginning on Aug. 25.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • On Monday, a new school zone was activated near Central High School to boost safety for students during peak hours, according to TXDOT. The zone covers the frontage road on West Houston Harte Expressway near the intersection of Caddo and North Park streets to Mesquite Street — drivers now face a reduced speed limit from 40 mph to 25 mph when the flashing lights are on.  San Angelo Standard-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott today announced a 10-year transportation plan with over $146 billion to improve road safety and ease congestion across Texas. The Texas Transportation Commission will adopt the plan on Thursday + key projects will benefit drivers statewide including those in San Angelo.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Today at 8:30 a.m., the San Angelo City Council meets at the McNease Convention Center South Meeting Room to consider the 2025-2026 budget, property tax rates and flood recovery funding+ Council members will review additional agenda items such as contract approvals and zoning changes while allowing time for public comment.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials declared the West Texas measles outbreak over on Monday—no new cases have been reported in 42 days. The outbreak began in late January in Seminole and spread to over 10 counties, causing 762 cases that mostly affected unvaccinated children with 96 hospitalizations and two deaths.  San Angelo LIVE!
