BUSINESS NEWS

  • Commercial property owners in San Angelo can apply for up to $55,000 in flood repair assistance after Tuesday’s City Council approved up to $1 million from the North Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone to support damaged properties from the July 4 flood—owners in RM-1, RM-2, and Commercial zones have 90 days to apply by contacting the city's Planning Division.  FOX West Texas

CULTURE NEWS

  • Longtime San Angelo resident and actor Fess Parker was celebrated at Fort Concho during the Fess-tival—honoring his roles as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.  FOX West Texas

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents at Lake View High School raised concerns that students did not get enough food at lunch after the school switched to a closed campus — some students faced long lines and had to eat in hallways while the district said the commercial kitchen adjusts production daily. This report comes amid plans for a new cafeteria at Central that will better accommodate its larger student body.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The demolition of the historic main building of San Jacinto Elementary is underway today after structural damage forced the school to close more than a year ago—crews are clearing desks, chairs, and other equipment as heavy machinery prepares to tear down the 116-year-old structure per ISD Board approval.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department expects a strong dove season with mourning dove numbers estimated at 35.9 million and white-winged dove numbers at 11.7 million due to good breeding conditions despite spring storms—hunters in most zones will have solid chances starting Sept. 1. TPWD also advises hunters to stay cool in the early heat and to follow all licensing and education rules for a safe hunt.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angelo State football is ranked in the nation’s top 15 heading into the 2025 season, with the Rams placed #13 in the AFCA coaches poll and #12 in the D2football.com poll. The Rams will face Fort Hays State next Thursday at 7 p.m.—their season opener in Kansas.  KWFR
  • Angelo State men's basketball coach Vinay Patel finalized his recruiting class with five new players, including four Division I transfers and one from a Lone Star Conference rival; the new recruits come from schools such as Texas A&M Kingsville, Louisiana Tech, North Carolina Central, Presbyterian College and Northern Illinois and are set to add depth to the team next season.  San Angelo LIVE!
