COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Five San Angelo firefighters were honored Tuesday after rescuing a 26-week premature infant born in a rare emergency on Aug. 10 — the baby was found still in the amniotic sac and in grave danger after being born in a toilet; hospital officials say the child is expected to recover.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Today, a San Angelo man rescued a stray dog at the EQ when it appeared distressed—his quick action brought the animal to safety and is being praised by local onlookers.  San Angelo LIVE!

CRIME NEWS

  • Corrections officers at Tom Green County Jail reported 11 bookings in the past 24 hours that included charges for unlawful firearm possession by a felon—assault causing bodily injury in a family violence case—and multiple controlled substance offenses, with 428 individuals currently booked.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University's Tau-Sigma chapter of Kappa Sigma won a national Founders Award for Chapter Excellence and was named the top chapter for raising funds to support veterans at the 75th Biennial Kappa Sigma Grand Conclave in Las Vegas. The chapter raised nearly $60,000 — its best year of giving — through events like a Navy SEAL parachute demonstration and other local charity activities.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo City Council approved a $242 million budget and set a new property tax rate to $0.7947 per $100 valuation — a change tied largely to a voter-approved Coliseum bond that passed 6–1 — and the new measures will take effect Oct. 1.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The City of San Angelo acknowledged that some residents noticed discolored water — crews are flushing hydrants and adjusting the water source mix. City officials say the water is safe to drink and conditions will return to normal in the next few days.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Texas banned the sale and marketing of THC, Delta-8, and other hemp-derived vape products on Sept. 1 under Senate Bill 2024, making it a Class A misdemeanor with penalties of up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine — possession remains legal. Supporters say the move aims to protect youth while critics fear it may drive users to the black market.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Governor Abbott announced today that FEMA has extended the Individual Assistance registration period for Texans affected by Fourth of July floods until September 28. Residents in counties such as Tom Green can apply online or by phone for disaster-related help.  San Angelo LIVE!
