- ➤ The Peace Ambassadors of West Texas will host a peace vigil on Sept. 11 at City Park—315 E. Twohig—in San Angelo, where Parks and Recreation Director Carl White will speak about forgiveness. - ➤ San Angelo State Park will host several outdoor events in September such as a Full Moon Hike on Sept. 6 from 8 to 9:30 p.m. and a Sunset Hike on Sept. 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.—the park will also offer weekly Bison and Longhorn Viewing at 9 a.m. along with astronomy programs, a Lunch & Learn on Sept. 17, Deaf Outdoors Day on Sept. 20, and a Suicide Awareness Veterans Ruck on Sept. 27. - ➤ A San Angelo man was arrested for pointing a gun at his girlfriend during an argument on Lindenwood Drive—Joshua Anthony Showels, 34, is held on a $285,000 bond. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ Corrections officers at Tom Green County Jail reported 15 bookings in the past 24 hours — with charges including burglary of habitation with felony intent, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and a sex offender registration violation, and the jail now holds 426 individuals. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas Sen. Brandon Creighton was named the sole finalist for chancellor of the Texas Tech University System after the Board of Regents voted unanimously on Wednesday. - ➤ Angelo State University launched a new Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence in The Nexus at Angelo State facility—supported by $5 million in non-formula funding approved by the Texas Legislature over the next two fiscal years—and will expand AI education and research across all academic disciplines with input from faculty, local business owners and outside researchers. - ➤ Angelo State University will host its fall Game Day tomorrow with a Ram Jam tailgate party featuring a free concert by local band Gage and the Grease Monkeys, along with football, soccer and volleyball matches at campus venues including LeGrand Stadium and the Junell Center.
