COMMUNITY NEWS

  • San Angelo leaders held a solemn 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the city’s 9/11 monument near Celebration Bridge Thursday morning—Fire Chief Patrick Brody and local dignitaries, including a former FDNY firefighter, honored nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Students and first responders gathered at TLCA for the annual First Responder Breakfast—honoring service during floods and on the anniversary of 9/11.  FOX West Texas

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country artist Bri Bagwell will headline a benefit concert at The Icehouse in Christoval on Sept. 20 to raise funds and awareness for Huntington’s disease—this family-friendly event will include 90s country covers and support families affected by the illness.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • On Sept. 20, the annual Concho Valley Archaeology Fair will be held at Fort Concho’s Barracks 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the event, hosted by the Concho Valley Archaeology Society for over 20 years, is free and will offer hands-on activities like a make-believe dig, ancient bow and arrow shooting, and rock painting while the fort remains open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Today the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum and Cultural Center announced this year’s honorees who show leadership, service and pride in our community. The awards include the Legend Award to the late Henry Hogeda Sr., the Trailblazer Award to lawyer Rick De Hoyos, the Service Award to Fuentes Cafe Downtown owner John Fuentes, the Hispanic Educator Award to Principal Joe Gándar and the Amigo Award to Simon Rincon, Maria Mejia and Araceli Gutierrez—winners will be honored at the Hispanic Heritage Banquet on September 27 at 6 p.m. with actor Wilmer Valderrama as special guest.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • San Angelo ISD announced that Lake View High School will switch to a closed-campus lunch to improve student safety and meet federal nutrition standards—boosting attendance and reducing tardies. Board President Taylor Kingman explained the change on San Angelo LIVE! studio yesterday—detailing extra seating and adjusted meal service to shorten lunch lines.  San Angelo LIVE!

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Director of Water Utilities explained that discolored water in San Angelo is caused by a slug from the Ivie Reservoir turning over after flooding, which released manganese and organics into the system—city crews are flushing hydrants to remove the tinted water. He said the water is not toxic and work will continue until clearer water returns to the pipelines.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo nonprofit West Texas Counseling and Guidance was named a 2025 Lex Frieden Employment Award winner—recognized by Governor Greg Abbott for its commitment to hiring individuals with disabilities in a variety of roles. The organization will be honored at the HireAbility Employer Forum on Oct. 2 at Morgan’s Wonderland, where its inclusive work practices will be showcased.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angelo State University men’s and women’s basketball teams released their 2025-26 season schedules. The Rams will start on Nov. 7 in Billings and have a home opener on Nov. 14 while the Rambelles open on Nov. 14 in Colorado and both teams begin Lone Star Conference play on Dec. 3—details include opponents and game times.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • This week, five high school football games will take place in the Concho Valley and West Texas—each game promises exciting rematches and close scores. Teams such as Wall and Jim Ned, Ozona and Brady, San Angelo Lake View and Lamesa, Grape Creek and Bangs, and Abilene Cooper and San Angelo Central will compete on different days.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Wall Hawks—ranked No. 3—and the Jim Ned Indians—ranked No. 10 will face off in a rivalry game in Wall as both teams look to keep their unbeaten records. They plan to play hard to add another win to their streak.  San Angelo LIVE!
