EDUCATION NEWS

  • San Angelo ISD recognized Central High School senior Brady Stewart as a National Merit Semifinalist, placing him among 16,000 students eligible to compete for $28M in scholarships this spring. He now advances in the National Merit process—an honor that reflects his strong academics and leadership in school activities.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Heather Prewitt sued San Angelo ISD after alleging that coach Brent Abilez forced her freshman son to do a grueling tennis exercise that made him severely ill and led to two hospital stays. She is seeking compensation for his pain and emotional distress while the district must respond by the end of this month—claiming his athletic future was endangered.  San Angelo LIVE!

SPORTS NEWS

  • Angelo State football overcame a delay lasting three hours and beat Eastern New Mexico 31 to 20 for their 13th straight win, despite offensive struggles and an injured starting quarterback—backup Kaeden Smith led the effort as the Rams forced four turnovers and Zeek Freeman returned an 88-yard kickoff for a touchdown. The Rams will host Western NM next.  KWFR
  • The Lake View Chiefs secured a 44-27 win against Lamesa on September 14 and tied their best start in 42 years — running back Izaiah Rios rushed for 170 yards with five touchdowns while quarterback Chris Alvizo passed for 305 yards and two scores. They are 3-0 and will move to 4-0 with a home game win against Lubbock High.  KWFR
  • The Central Bobcats secured their first win in 2025 with a 40-35 comeback over Abilene Cooper after trailing by 11 before scoring 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter—RB Zey Johnson ran two long touchdown runs—while the team will face Belton on Friday night.  KWFR
