COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds gathered in San Angelo for a candlelight vigil—honoring activist Charlie Kirk and showing strong community support in remembrance. The event brought together local residents to reflect on his work.  FOX West Texas

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Taco Veloz got a $125,000 permit to build a new Mexican restaurant in the space that once held Express Donuts and Kolaches at 2202 Sherwood Way in San Angelo — the restaurant will open soon across from the old Medical Arts Pharmacy.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Families and history enthusiasts are invited to attend the Concho Valley Archaeology Fair on Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Concho’s Barracks 6 in San Angelo—offering interactive exhibits and hands-on activities that explore the region's deep past.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts will host a Free Family Day on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Education Studio at 1 Love Street—where families will enjoy art, science, and hands-on activities such as examining a minnow’s tail under a microscope, building mammal models, visiting Studio Rio for live animal encounters from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and receiving a free children’s book giveaway outside Scripps-Howard Library with free admission to the galleries and light refreshments provided.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Walter Juliff—who retired after a 50-year coaching and scouting career with the Cowboys, Steelers and Raiders—has joined the ASU Foundation Board to guide financial support for Angelo State. The board now has 15 members, and his addition brings strong NFL experience to help improve university programs.  San Angelo Standard-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo City Council will decide today whether to renew a $162,000 contract with Concho Valley PAWS for animal rescue services or bring the work in-house— a city-appointed task force recommends taking control while an advisory committee favors renewing the contract.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • TxDOT released its newest Highway Conditions Report that details 22 construction projects in nine counties (including Tom Green) that may affect travel routes.  FOX West Texas

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, Angelo State earned Lone Star Conference honors as defensive end Owen Seaver was named Defensive Player of the Week and wide receiver Zeek Freeman received Special Teams Player of the Week after a 31 to 20 win over Eastern New Mexico — the Rams will face Western New Mexico for Family Day this Saturday at 6 p.m. at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • San Angelo cowboy Dylan Hancock won the all-around title at Pendleton Round-Up in Oregon on Sept. 13 by clinching the tie-down roping crown with a three-head average of 30.4 seconds plus an 8.6-second final run that earned him $12,938 in payouts.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Last week, San Angelo Central rallied from an 11—point deficit to win 40—35 over Abilene Cooper with key fourth—quarter plays, while San Angelo Lake View beat a tough Lamesa team 44—27 as Izaiah Rios scored five touchdowns. Bronte won all three games under coach Rocky Rawls and Wall recorded a 24—0 shutout over Jim Ned to climb in state rankings—highlighting a week of standout high school football action in West Texas.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • West Texas high school football teams updated records ahead of Week 4. Teams like Permian have wins and Central has losses while many teams are still at zero; new games are set this week across districts—Midland High will play at El Paso Montwood and Permian will play at Amarillo Tascosa.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University football team rose to No. 6 in the national rankings after a record of 3 to 0 and a 31 to 20 win over Eastern New Mexico. The Rams will play Western New Mexico at 6:00 p.m. Saturday at LeGrand Stadium — though it is unclear if starting quarterback Braeden Fuller will return due to a calf strain.  San Angelo LIVE!
