COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Atmos Energy donated $1.5 million to help customers pay unpaid utility bills and past-due debt, giving funds to San Angelo’s Concho Valley Community Action Agency (a nonprofit) to support families including seniors, veterans and low-income households in preparing for winter heating.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • Ida Walter celebrated her 101st birthday Friday as family, city leaders, and Meals for the Elderly staff gathered at her home where she received a plaque—she said she was happy to display it for all to see.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Abbott delivered George Strait benefit checks to Tom Green County flood survivors on Friday at SPUR Arena in San Angelo — he said state first responders rescued more than 1,000 people while over 100 personnel continued searching for those still missing.  San Angelo LIVE!

HEALTH NEWS

  • Between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6, the San Angelo/Tom Green County Health Department inspected local restaurants for food safety and gave perfect scores to many while flagging others for repeated issues such as slime in ice machines, improper food storage and missing certified managers—problems noted at IHOP and Masa Sushi.  San Angelo Standard-Times

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Zero One Taproom in San Angelo is hosting a beer pairing dining experience from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at 59 N. Koenigheim—featuring five scratch-made courses paired with house-brewed beers. Chef Daniel and Head Brewer Josh will guide guests while limited seats are available, and reservations must be made by calling 325-617-4569 for $50 per person or $40 for Beer Club members.  San Angelo Standard-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • San Angelo teen Caleb Arredondo, a Central High graduate aged 18, will make his first adult MMA debut tonight in Midland — he faces Glacius Tobar in a 125-pound bout at The Tailgate Fight Night at 7 p.m. after years of international youth competition.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • On Friday at San Angelo Stadium the Lake View Chiefs earned a one point win 50 to 49 over Lubbock High when Chris Alvizo scored a crucial touchdown with 3:34 left in the game—marking their first undefeated start since 1983.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The COVER1 Crew discussed key sports games including Lake View vs. Lubbock, Central vs. Belton, and a rematch between Mason and Junction at the Puncherdome. They also highlighted the Chiefs’ chance to start 4-0—naming a Player of the Week and Built Ford Tough’s 2A Player of the Week.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • At Tiger Stadium on Friday night, the San Angelo Central Bobcats (1-2) built a three-score lead over the Belton Tigers (2-1) through explosive plays such as three first-half touchdowns by receiver Jimmy Edwards and key turnovers on downs. The Bobcats led 28-7 by halftime as their stout defense kept Belton from scoring more points.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • The Lake View Chiefs and Lubbock High are locked in a shootout at halftime with the score tied 28-28. Izaiah Rios and Bo Davis lead key plays as the Chiefs try for their first 4-0 start since 1983 — a close contest that holds the game in a tight balance.  San Angelo LIVE!
