COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Circle S Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch in San Angelo opens its season on Sept. 27 to mark its 10th anniversary and will run through Nov. 1 at 7305 Bean Road—opening day includes a special promotion with $10 VIP passes for both children and adults. The event also offers weekday field trips for schools at 9 and 11 a.m.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Whataburger has donated $50K to the San Angelo Area Foundation for flood relief through its Cups that Care program. The funds will help those impacted by floods in Tom Green County — and the Texas Hill Country.  FOX West Texas

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Citizens in San Angelo saw bright streaks in the sky last night that were not a meteor shower but were caused by the uncontrolled reentry of a Starlink satellite—Starlink-20373 burned up and broke into glowing fragments as it fell. Earlier in the evening, a Trident II missile test took place in the North Atlantic—navigational warnings had been posted and officials said the test was not connected to the Texas sighting.  San Angelo LIVE!

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spirit Halloween opened its seasonal store in San Angelo on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 4151 Sunset Drive—replacing the former pOpshelf—and will run through early November offering fall costumes and décor.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • San Angelo ISD trustees voted on September 22 to approve nearly $565,000 for two new 46-passenger Blue Bird buses from AZ Bus Sales to replace older vehicles in the district fleet. Transportation Director Lee Livingston said the buses were in Lubbock and will be readied immediately to ensure reliable service.  KWFR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fall has begun today with the Autumnal Equinox—San Angelo will face triple-digit heat with highs of 100 to 103 degrees on Monday and Tuesday and a cold front is expected to bring storms and cooler weather by Tuesday night, with Christmas just 98 days away.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo residents received flood relief checks from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott — the funds came from over $6M raised at George Strait's Strait to the Heart benefit concert in July.  FOX West Texas

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ozona running back Christian Villarreal rushed for 450 yards and scored four touchdowns on Friday in a 68—19 win over Harper and earned the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week award on the same day. The Lions improved to 4—0 and will play again Friday at Miles.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Caleb Arredondo, a Central High graduate from San Angelo, fought on a fractured foot and won his amateur MMA debut in Midland Saturday night. He submitted opponent Glacius Tobar with a rear-naked choke in the second round—about 1:40 into the round.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • West Texas high school football standings show varied records ahead of Week 5. In District 3—3A, San Angelo TLCA is 0—3 while Permian leads District 2—6A at 3—1, and teams will take the field for scheduled games later this week.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State junior defensive back Shamareon 'Bobo' McKinnon was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after a standout performance in a 56 to 27 win over Western New Mexico that included a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown and a forced fumble. The Rams have a record of 4 to 0 overall and 2 to 0 in conference play — they are off this week before hosting UT Permian Basin on Oct. 4 at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium with kickoff at 6 p.m.  San Angelo LIVE!
