COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Camp Mystic, a Christian girls camp where 25 campers and two counselors died during the July floods, will reopen one of its campsites in 2026 at its Cypress Lake site—officials said they will follow new safety rules and plan a memorial while focusing on reuniting missing camper Cile Steward with her family.  San Angelo LIVE!

CULTURE NEWS

  • Santa Rita Elementary School unveiled a new sheep statue named Viola today—adding it to downtown San Angelo's public art collection.  FOX West Texas
  • A San Angelo home known for death, demonic activity and alleged satanic rituals became the focus of a viral investigation by ghost hunters who called it the scariest place they have explored—The Paranormal Files also featured Lone Wolf Bridge with its history of drownings, crashes and rumored unmarked graves near Ben Ficklin.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University Symphony Orchestra is opening its fall season Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Elta Joyce Murphey Auditorium in the Mayer Administration Building+ the free concert Thunderstruck will feature dramatic works by Mussorgsky and Philip Glass with guest Dr Trent Shuey and Dr Lisa Rogers.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Angelo Mayor Tom Thompson, elected with 5,087 votes in May and sworn in on May 20, answered 20 questions about his future plans and recalled the early flood that tested the city. He said his goal is to build trust—improving infrastructure, public safety and quality of life as he works to make the community better every day.  San Angelo Standard-Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The San Angelo/Tom Green County Health Department inspected local restaurants from Sept. 7-13 and found evidence of insect and rodent contamination at Camaron Loco along with violations such as missing certified food managers and unclean surfaces; officials advised the restaurant of these issues. The department will continue monitoring food establishments to ensure they meet state food safety rules.  San Angelo Standard-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No.20-ranked Angelo State volleyball team returns to Junell Center-Stephens Arena this weekend to start LSC play after a seven-match road trip — they will face St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s in a two-match homestand that is part of Youth Sports Weekend.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Lake View Chiefs, who are 4-0, will try to win their fifth game on Friday when they host the Levelland Lobos; they lost last season and Levelland won the past three contests. Central Bobcats, now 2-2, will play at Waco High on Friday—hoping to register a third straight win as they push for higher scores.  KWFR
