CULTURE NEWS

  • Students and student-athletes from the Concho Valley gathered at San Angelo Stadium last Wednesday night for the Fields of Faith event by the Concho Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Several speakers and a worship band led the celebration as participants united in faith+ sharing moments of fellowship under the stadium lights.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Angelo State University Wind Ensemble will perform its first fall season concert, Steampunk Dreams, on Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the Murphey Performance Hall (72 W. College Ave in downtown San Angelo). The free concert features 50 student musicians performing works by Gustav Holst, Steven Bryant, Erika Svanoe and David Gillingham under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Alvis.  San Angelo LIVE!

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Angelo State University’s Kay Bailey Hutchison Institute will host the Cybersecurity Roundup on Oct. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Houston Harte University Center—sessions will offer insights on protecting personal data, countering AI scams, and networking with experts such as Joe Sanchez.  San Angelo LIVE!

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Travelers leaving San Angelo Regional Airport may face TSA delays today due to equipment maintenance — city officials advise arriving early and checking carry-on bags with American Airlines to speed screening until maintenance is completed by this evening.  San Angelo LIVE!
  • Voters in Texas must update their voter registration by Oct.6 to vote in the Nov.4 election—if you have moved or changed your name, update your record immediately. Early voting begins Oct.20 and ends Oct.31—check with your local election office for details.  San Angelo Standard-Times
  • The federal government shut down today after lawmakers missed the funding deadline, and many Texas federal workers are working without pay while others face furlough until a new spending bill is passed—delaying critical services like WIC appointments, veteran benefits, and airport operations.
