- ➤ New Horizons will host three free online webinars in October to guide residents on becoming foster parents and supporting local children. The sessions are set for Oct 16 at noon, Oct 22 at 10 a.m., and Oct 28 at 8 p.m.—participants can register for their preferred date. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ San Angelo Apostolic Church will begin post-fire clean-up Oct. 10—members work to rebuild community strength as investigators probe the fire’s cause. FOX West Texas
- ➤ San Angelo residents can enjoy Halloween events in the Concho Valley through early November where pumpkin patches, haunted houses and trunk-or-treat festivals are scheduled at several local sites—offering activities for families with varied times and prices. San Angelo LIVE!
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lincoln Middle School Principal Joe Gandar was honored with the Carol Santry Hispanic Educator Award at the Hispanic Heritage Month Banquet on Sept. 27 for his dedication to education and cultural understanding, and he has led his school to national recognition as a Texas School to Watch during his five years of leadership. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Congressman August Pfluger hosted a town hall meeting in Garden City where he discussed the ongoing government shutdown and answered questions from local residents—he also honored the Glasscock County 4-H Livestock Judging Team for finishing ninth at nationals. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ City Manager Daniel Valenzuela gave city leaders a one-year notice at Tuesday's City Council meeting that he will retire on Oct. 31—city officials said the Council will soon begin its search for a successor using a recruiting firm and share more details at the next meeting. KWFR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Shannon will host a drive-thru flu clinic from Oct. 15 to 17 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its South Campus parking lot on Executive Drive — patients aged six months and older can get a flu shot without an appointment, with insurance billed or a $45 cash price for standard vaccines and $90 for high-dose or Flublok shots. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Angelo State Incredibles— a unified flag football team made up of ASU students and local Special Olympics athletes— qualified to represent Texas at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota by winning a flag football game at a recent qualifying event. They will compete at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn while being coached by ASU alum Kenneth Gunnels. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ The Central Bobcats will host Midland Legacy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday after a bye week as the 3-2 team has lost its last five meetings against Legacy since 2017. The Lake View Chiefs will face Brownfield in their final non-district game on Friday—Brownfield has lost 18 consecutive games while Lake View won 43-6 over them last year and seeks a rebound after back-to-back losses. 1-4 p.m. — LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field — $15 for general admission, free with student ID — Cheer on the Rams as they face Midwestern State and enjoy the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen at halftime.
