- ➤ On Columbus Day, four San Angelo banks spent their day off repairing flood-damaged homes as part of the 10th annual Day of Service and Mayor Tom Thompson praised the banks for speeding recovery after the July 4 flood—community partners like Galilee Community Development Corporation and United Way assisted with repairs on about 10 homes. - ➤ Halfmann's Cake Cottage, a 30-year bakery at 1 S. Taylor St., is now under new ownership by Cowboy-Up Chocolate, which is remodeling the space while keeping popular items like iced sugar cookies. The new owners will soon hire experienced cake decorators and bakers and said their downtown chocolate shop at 6 E. Concho Ave. will remain open — offering a fresh start for local fans. - ➤ Texas students can apply for public colleges for free this week through ApplyTexas as part of Texas Free College Application Week—running from October 13th to 19th. Officials said first-year and transfer applicants will have their fees waived to help reduce cost barriers. San Angelo LIVE!
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Angelo State University’s Office of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health and Old Central Firehouse Pizzeria and Taproom are hosting their eighth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Profit Share event, Pink Out the Firehouse, on Oct. 16 at (200 S. Magdalen St.) where 10% of profits will support local breast cancer patients. An online silent auction featuring 70 donated items runs until the event ends. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ San Angelo ISD — in partnership with La Esperanza Clinic — hosted a vaccine clinic where many families and kids met with medical professionals to get vaccines and help keep students safe for the rest of the school year. FOX West Texas

- ➤ The Angelo State women’s golf team finished Monday’s opening round at Pueblo Country Club tied for 17th place. The team will play 18 more holes today to decide the team and individual champions. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ Last week, West Texas high school football games delivered close scores and standout plays as San Angelo Legacy won 58-42 over Central in a district opener — Eldorado rallied from a 20-0 deficit for a comeback win and San Angelo Lake View bolstered their record. The teams now prepare for upcoming district contests as players like Micah Smith and Izaiah Rios aim to drive their schools toward district titles. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ The West Texas high school football district standings for Week 8 show early season records—Permian leads District 2-6A at 1-0 while Wall is 1-0 in District 4-3A Division II—with several districts reporting mixed results from last week.
