- ➤ Protesters will gather at Civic League Park Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon for the peaceful No Kings protest aimed at opposing chaos, corruption and cruelty. - ➤ Tariffs for imported furniture and cabinets are now in effect, and higher prices are expected for these goods—impacting both consumers and local retailers. FOX West Texas
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Angelo State University is hosting its 2025 Homecoming week with a parade, bonfire, and football game on Saturday Oct. 18 where the ASU Rams face Midwestern State. The week also features a ram remembrance on Oct. 14, an awards dinner on Oct. 17, and other public gatherings — giving local fans many ways to join the celebration. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ Texas families will be able to apply for the new school voucher program beginning Feb 4 with applications closing March 20 and award decisions on May 1. Odyssey will manage the program that prioritizes low-income households and offers up to $10,500 for private-school tuition, $30,000 for special needs, or $2,000 for homeschool expenses — families will receive funds by July 1. - ➤ A San Angelo resident won a $1 million prize from a Diamond 7s scratch ticket purchased at Walmart Supercenter No. 1249 on 610 W. 29th St based on a lottery release issued Tuesday. - ➤ The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Fall Festival will be held downtown on October 16th from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the south lawn of the county courthouse—this free, family-friendly event will feature decorated patrol cars, apple bobbing, and games to raise awareness for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas. - ➤ The Angelo State women’s soccer team hosted UT Tyler on Oct. 11 at LeGrand Soccer Complex — they will face Midwestern State on Saturday to extend their strong run in Lone Star Conference play. Sanai Stewart scored six goals and Abby James made five assists as the team recorded six shutouts this season. San Angelo LIVE!
- ➤ After two losses the Angelo State University football team dropped to No. 21 in national rankings from a high of No. 5 after a 4-0 start. The team is now 4-2 and will face Midwestern State at 6 p.m. Saturday at LeGrand Stadium — a game that may change their playoff chances. San Angelo LIVE!
